Dukhan English School was established in the early 1950s by British Petroleum, the operators of the Dukhan Field at the time. As oil operations have grown, the school has expanded and Dukhan is now a multi-national town with residents of almost 50 different nationalities.

Dukhan English School (DES) is one of the oldest international schools in Qatar. It also benefits from being the only international school serving Dukhan. Its students are accommodated across a soon to be completed, state of the art campus, the families of whom are all QatarEnergy employees. As such, the Head of Secondary plays a prominent part in the town as a whole; the sense of community is a key factor in the success of the school.

As oil operations have grown, the school has expanded and Dukhan is now a multi-national town with residents of almost 50 different nationalities. This is an exciting time for DES: a new, purpose-built primary school opened in October 2018 for pupils aged 3-11 and a new secondary school opened for students in April 2022. The Head of Secondary of DES will have a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of its development. 

  • The core purpose of the Head of Secondary is to be an inspirational leader with drive and vision in leading Dukhan English School on its journey to academic excellence.
  • The Head of Secondary will be responsible for ensuring that the core values of QatarEnergy, integrity, safety, excellence, collaboration, responsibility and respect are embedded within the culture of the school and support the delivery of outstanding provision for the students
  • The Head of Secondary will be committed to supporting collaborative working practises across the QatarEnergy schools

In addition to the Head of Secondary, the Senior Leadership Team comprises of the Principal, Head of Primary, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Leader and four Assistant Heads.

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • At least three years’ experience as an outstanding school leader, preferably in a high performing UK or international school
  • Deep understanding of the learning needs of students with EAL
  • Successful leadership track-record, preferably in a whole school context
  • Continuing professional development in preparation for senior management
  • Strong analytical abilities and a track record of innovation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially in team-building, coaching and mentoring
